Accounting Clerk/Financial Analyst

Thompson Construction Group has an immediate opening for an Accounting Clerk/Financial Analyst in their Spruce Grove operations center. This position is responsible for day to day accounting and to organize and coordinate the process to capture financial data for management reporting, internal financial reports, financial analysis and completion of month end as well as year-end processes. The successful candidate will create positive and productive relationships with all internal and external parties in order to maximize organizational effectiveness, results and to improve departmental productivity, efficiency and quality of results on an on-going basis. This position will report to the Corporate Controller.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Participate in monthly or scheduled meetings of the Finance Team to review accounting issues, status of current projects, upcoming projects, and month end preparations, etc
  • Prepares periodic or special reports/studies as requested by the Corporate Controller
  • Build an expert level of knowledge and understanding of Explorer software program, including applications for accounting and payroll systems, GL accounts, and monthly reporting
  • Accounting tasks such as daily/monthly bank reconciliations, petty cash reconciliation, pre-paid reconciliations for monthly deposits and payments, and maintaining fixed assets and long-term debt schedules
  • Provide assistance to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, prepare monthly journal entries, assist with monthly flux analysis
  • Input all company credit card invoices and reconcile on a monthly basis. Analyze spending, trends, variances and coding errors made by employees
  • When requested by the Corporate Controller, aid with audits or third-party accounting initiatives
  • Helps to develop corporate wide budgeting process and works with individual departments to build, maintain and report on budgets
  • Other activity tasks as needed

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in bookkeeping/accounting
  • University or College degree with relevant accounting courses, or holds CPB or RPB Certification, and/or CPA designation
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Previous experience in the heavy construction industry using Explorer Contract Manager software would be considered a plus
